In a post-apocalyptic world, we witness the beginning of a new era where the body of what we once recognized as the nation is as fragmented as those who inhabit the stage. Wounded, broken beings trying to rebuild themselves.
Where is Sarmiento?! Where are the founding fathers who have abandoned their children in this desert?
Leather, the symbol of corporeality, emerges in the face of a loss of essence. Leather as what remains after tearing apart, dissecting, gutting, and emptying the body. If the nation is an imagined community involving imagined connections between the individual body and the collective body, these decayed bodies point to what cannot be rebuilt. A liminal existence, as fragmented as our identity. An open wound, existing between the living and the dead.
At this threshold, a search begins to remake what never was, Where is Ginastera?!
A web of ever-indistinguishable connotations emerges: the communal, the noble savage, unity as strength and beauty, the malón, the celebration, the banal, the animal, brushing against the sacred… creating an unknown monster, a new order.
Forgive us, we don’t know what we’re doing!

A post-apocalyptic world opens a desert and a new era: the Era of Leather. Six folklore dancers and two contemporary dancers embark on a quest to remake something that never existed: a possible identity, a national dance, a community. The renowned choreographer Pablo Rotemberg, together with an exceptional cast of dancers, explores the malambo through a contemporary lens, delving into themes of Argentine history.
